Florida quarterback Tim Tebow was injured after being on the receiving end of a brutal -- but legal -- hit from Kentucky defensive end Taylor Wyndham Saturday, staying down on the field for several anxious moments before eventually walking off the field under his own power.
Wyndham rushed in virtually untouched from his right defensive end position and drilled Tebow when he was looking in the opposite direction -- and as Tebow went down, his head was hit by the leg of a Florida offensive lineman. Tebow at first appeared to have suffered a head or neck injury in the collision, and the entire Florida team walked toward the field to show support for their leader. Video of the hit after the jump.

But after a couple minutes being attended to by Florida's medical personnel, Tebow eventually sat up, eliciting a huge cheer from the crowd at Kentucky's Commonwealth Stadium. The game was in the third quarter with Florida up 34-7 when Tebow went down, and he won't return. Tebow initially sat on the bench but after vomiting he was taken to the locker room.
Tebow was already ailing heading into Saturday's game, having been diagnosed with what Florida is describing as a respiratory problem but what some media reports have speculated could be swine flu.
UPDATE: Tebow was shown leaving the stadium in an ambulance, still in uniform.
UPDATE: Head coach Urban Meyer said he believes it to be a concussion.

As long as there is a BCS, teams will be compelled to run up the score and hold their opponents to as little as possible. Things like this will continue to happen until there is a viable and fair playoff system. As it is now, a team could go undefeated and still not be considered for a chance to play for the National Championship.... With a playoff system, wins would count as wins no matter what the score...

Tebow was in because as the reports had it earlier in the day, ALL THREE Florida quaterbacks were sufferring from the same respiratory problems.

Yeah but even if the backups werent sick, Tebow would still be in, wanting to add to his stats, not like it hasn't happened in the past.

Correction--they were NOT up 3 TD with 14 minutes to go, it was 31-7 and there were 4 minutes left in the 3rd quarter when he was hit. The Gators hadn't scored since the FIRST quarter, but UK had scored right before the half. The numbers don't always tell the story. UK was showing life and TT wanted to snuff that out before he took a seat, most likely. UF had 35 players sick at that game, in varying levels of illness so it wasn't the same team we had against UT, even. It's easy to 2nd guess after the fact, but Meyer has to make decisions then and there and deal with the consequences afterward.

I don't really recall ANY football teams removing starters just because they're up =P Especially in College, where every point, hell, every play gets you closer to that BCS title. Yes, it's a lame system, but it's the system. Nobody was doing anything wrong, Tebow took a man hit and had a freak accident. Everybody needs to stop acting like this is such an unheard of, wild event. Wasn't there another QB that got injured this year when his team was up big? Nobody cares about that though, 'cause it wasn't Tebow or the Gators =P
Give it a rest.

Dawn,
If he didn't sustain that injury you would be cheering him along like everyone else was. Last time I checked you don't have a crystal ball. However, your retroscope is very well tuned.
As with all player who have a possible injury, I wish him well and anxiously await his return to the starting line up....GO GATORS!!!

Tebow has the flu and couldn't fly with the team, up by 3 touchdowns, and were in the third quarter yet, PSYCHO COACH Meyers keeps him in the game. Let's run up the score and chase the Heismann. Yea, as he puking, nice. I hope he misses a few games. Sporting News just named coach Meyers, "Coach of the Decade" I just named Coach Meyer "SEC JACKASS OF THE YEAR"

tdudz,
Please see the above comment I made to Dawn. Ditto to you. Like you said, he has the flu and was able to score three TDs. He was on his way to score his 4th. That is why you are where are and Meyers is being voted as one of the best coaches. Obviously, you are not from Gator Country..... GO GATORS!!

I totally agree with tdudz. what a stupid move to leave Tbow in the game.Things like this is what can finish a career for an atlete. Protect the players, not the spread.

Bamaboy doesn't represent the people of Alabama. He's clueless, classless, and in general. . .just plain stupid. Tim Tebow is a class act and we're praying that he's not seriously hurt and is back in the game soon. WAR EAGLE!!!!

tdudz, sounds to me like you have issues with the Gators---maybe sour grapes?! 9********************************************8+25147777777777777777
meyer is one of the top college coaches and a close personal friend of the entire Tebow family, if he thought there was a problem with Tebow, he would have pulled him. As for the hit he took--it's big boy football. injuries happen.
Would be nice if y'all would pray for him and his family instead of condemning him, his coach the Gators, and probably Florida.
This UofF class of '70 alumni says
GOOOOOOO GATORS

What the HELL is the Gator training staff thinking??? I'M a lowly PT, but get this guy to the hospital!! He needs a CT head and C-spine x-ray ASAP. He's definitely got a concussion, let's hope no neck fx.
